Overview

The Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation, through the Innovation Division’s Private Sector Partnerships team, has partnered with the National Rugby League (NRL) to deliver the NRL Tech Showcase during Magic Round on Friday, 15 May 2026.

The NRL Tech Showcase will spotlight the strength and diversity of Queensland’s innovation ecosystem by featuring cutting‑edge technologies with the potential to create meaningful impact across NRL, its clubs, partners and sponsors.

Queensland-based organisations are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to exhibit under one of two streams. A summary of the streams is provided below, with further details available to applicants who meet eligibility requirements.

Stream 1 – Sports Innovation

  • Player Performance and Welfare
  • Fan Engagement
  • Operational Efficiency
  • Grassroots Innovation and Participation Growth

Stream 2 – Platform Technologies

  • Sustainability and Circular Economy
  • Connected Infrastructure and Smart Venues
  • Digital Consumer Engagement and Retail Innovation

The Private Sector Partnerships team welcomes EOIs from innovative Queensland organisations seeking to showcase their technologies. Applications close at 2:00pm on 30 March 2026.

The NRL Magic Round Tech Showcase will be held at Howard Smith Wharves on Friday, 15 May 2026, ahead of Magic Round (14–17 May), and will be attended by invited CEOs, CFOs and senior leaders from the NRL, clubs, partners, sponsors and key stakeholders.

Assessment

The following criteria will be used to assess all applications:

  1. Relevance of the technology or innovation to the selected stream (Stream 1 or Stream 2).
  2. Market presence, including evidence of adoption or application of the technology or innovation in relevant sectors.
  3. Demonstrated capability to exhibit the technology or innovation effectively at the Showcase.
  4. Unique value proposition of the applicant organisation and its technology or innovation.

Applicants are encouraged to provide detailed yet concise responses to each question. Please ensure responses are written for a broad audience, avoiding technical jargon or unexplained acronyms. Each question should be addressed in full, and guidance notes will be provided to support you in preparing your submission.

Eligibility Requirements

Is your business located in Queensland? * Required
For the purposes of this program "Located in Queensland" is any organisation that has a physical office in Queensland and has an ABN which states its "Main business location" is in Queensland.
Are you a micro, start-up or small to medium enterprise? * Required
Micro business 1-4, a small to medium enteprise 5-199 FTE employees
Is your ABN registered in Queensland as the main business location? * Required
Is your technology, product, solution fully developed, with at least one customer? * Required
